Special Interest
A special interest is a term often used to describe a topic or subject that holds a deep and passionate fascination for an individual, particularly someone described as neurodivergent. This interest can be broad or narrow and may change over time.
Hyper Focus
Hyperfocus refers to an intense and prolonged state of concentration or focus on a specific task, activity, or topic, often to the exclusion of everything else. This state of hyperfocus can occur in neurodivergent individuals.
Hyper Fixation
Hyperfixation is a term that is sometimes used interchangeably with “special interest” but may carry different connotations for some individuals. It can refer to an intense and sometimes obsessive focus on a specific topic or activity, often at the expense of other interests or responsibilities.
